Fairouz -
The living Lebanese legend Fairouz was to perform in Baalbeck this Sunday. However, because of the Israeli attacks in the Beka, the concert has been cancelled.
Born (1965) and bred in the Netherlands. Got an MA in English Literature and a BA in Teaching. Began working as a translator for investment company Robeco in Rotterdam. Having made a lifetime hobby out of Lebanon, I made a career switch in 2002 and moved to the capital of Dutch media, Hilversum, to work for the Dutch Muslim Broadcasting Corporation (NMO). After a couple of years I moved on to Dutch daily Dagblad De Pers in Amsterdam where I worked with amongst others Eric Smit and Kustaw Bessems. During these years of journalism I interviewed people like Naseeruddin Shah and Irene Khan (CEO Amnesty). One day I hope to add two of my favourites: Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das. Moving back and forth between journalism and teaching, I finally took a leap of faith and began working as a teacher of English. First at Het Baken, a secondary school in the Dutch city of Almere and presently at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (University of Applied Sciences).
